Harman Kardon CDR 2 CD Player/Recorder Review

Harman Kardon CDR 2 CD Player/RecorderFirst of all, with Harmon/Kardon how can you go wrong! When I first pulled this sturdy unit out of the box, plugged it in, and watched as the CDR-2's classy display light up I knew I had purchased a beautiful,higher-end piece of equipment! The users-manual is easy to read andunderstand, with several different recording scenarios explained. For myfirst recording I copied an entire CD in DIGITAL, using the 2X DUB feature. The CDR-2 performed flawlessly and made a perfect copy, keeping in mindthat the CD I copied was somewhat new and scratch/dirt free.I have yet toexplore it's other features, such as it's DUAL-PLAY mode; playing 2 CD'ssimultaneously, which will be helpful to me as a recording musician.Ithas many options for recording outside sources digitally (and analog) withit's COAXIAL and OPTICAL in/out ports. I've purchased and returned a"lower-end" recorder before and was extremely disappointed.TheHarmon/Kardon CDR-2 is one solid piece of technology in my book.

Sony CFD-S03CP - Boombox - radio / CD / cassette Review

Sony CFD-S03CP - Boombox - radio / CD / cassetteThis is a half-decent boombox, especially if you buy it on special. It is relatively light & compact too.

I really like it that it can play CDs with MP3s on them (as well as regular audio CDs).When I need to get MP3 music off my harddrive, the best and most permanent way to store the tunes is onto CD-Rs.I can fit hundreds onto one disc.Like most CD players, it won't play DVDs with MP3s, it has to be on CDs. The menu system is basic, but it gets the job done well enough. You can do some basic searching and programming too.

The digital tuner reception is good.I am glad it catches AM.Many radios these days seem to be excluding AM for some reason.AM is full of goodies you'll never get on FM.You can store a few of your favourite stations with this unit. That's good.

THE SOUND QUALITY ISN'T TOO GOOD.I'd say it is fair.It is kinda tin-can like, even with the megabass feature on.That's too bad, but the sound is definitely clear and it can reach a high volume if you need it too.

I like it that it plays old-school cassettes.I still have plenty of those worth listening to once in a while. However, this is very basic cassette deck. The buttons and mechanism seems kinda cheap. There is no auto reverse and no counter. The digital display only says "TAPE" when you pop a cassette in.A counter comes in handy, especially since there is no "window" on the cassette door to help you see what's left on the cassette. And I miss auto reverse tape decks.Even my old cheapo walkman had auto reverse back in the day. I haven't had to "flip a tape over" in well over a decade.

I like it that the cassette deck can record. But, there is no mic on the unit or even a mic input. That's where all the fun is with these things.Recording onto tapes from a CD or the radio isn't really something people will use too often anymore.

Actually, recording radio shows/interviews might be useful, but what Sony should have done was allow us to record onto CD-Rs.That way we could copy our tapes to CD-Rs instead of CD-s to tape. Also, we could record radio shows and even our voices (with a built-in mic or mic input) into a digital format (like MP3s).

And of course, the mic input could also serve as an audio-in input for attaching an Mp3 player to the unit. You cannot attach an MP3 player to this at all.

But I guess Sony wanted to keep this unit basic and around $100 (although I bought min on special for well below that price).

TDK MC60-6PK Microcassette Recording Tape Review

TDK MC60-6PK Microcassette Recording TapeI use these frequently for notes, memos and reminders. Handy while driving. Prefer the cassettes over digital as I can hand over a tape to be edited and typed while still using the recorder, Only complaint is the lack of a large compartment to hold multiple tapes, if needed.

Sony CFD-E90 CD Radio Cassette Recorder (White) Review

Sony CFD-E90 CD Radio Cassette RecorderPurchased it to use on job sites; didn't need anything too fancy, the smaller size is what attracted me. The cassette feature along with CD seemed like a nice bonus.

However, after one week the CD Player would not play a disc, instead read "no disc" even when one was inserted. I later have read where this is a common failure with this unit. I returned it and tried another, but this one gave the "no disc" error right out of the box. Very disappointing product from Sony.

I ended up returning it and got something else entirely. Don't waste your time on this product.

Panasonic RR-US360 Digital Voice Recorder Review

Panasonic RR-US360 Digital Voice RecorderAfter reading other reviews and shopping around I elected to buy a Panasonic RR US360.I am very happy with the ease of use, size, and clarity. However, I will NOT recommend this item to anyone due to the extreme difficulty I have had trying to download the recordings to my Dell D600 using Win 2000.What you do not learn until you have purchased and possibly used the item is that Win 2000 will not recognize the device and you are told to access it via the VoiceStudio software that comes with the item.Great, except it has not worked and doesn't recognize the USB port, much less the device.I have tried contacting Panasonic help and I strongly recommend anyone thinking of purchasing one of these to call them at 1-800-211-7262 and cycle thru the options (1,4,2,7) as given to me by the 'audio technician' to get help with the US360. The minimum wait time I have encountered is 21 minutes, but have yet to get a resolution and having been told I would be called and left my number, after 2 weeks I have yet to be called, have sent in emails via their web, and have not received any response.Panasonic again, absolutely NOT!!!!Call for yourself before buying and save yourself the frustration later.

Product Description:
The RR-US360 records longer in SP Mode than Panasonic's previous models and does not require LP (Long Play) Mode to record up to eight hours. In the past, LP (Long Play) Mode was necessary to maximize recording time, but this often meant sacrificing sound quality. Now you no longer have to choose between sound quality and recording time. You can save and edit the sound files you record on the RR-US360 with the included software. The included USB Cable connects your IC Recorder to a compatible PC for easy file transfers. Thanks to the Digital Voice Activated System on the RR-US360, recording begins as soon as sound is detected. This helps eliminate wasted tape space. At less than 4" tall and less than 1" deep, the RR-US360 is easy to carry and fits conveniently in just about any pocket.

Rechargeable Micro Cassette Recorder with Voice Activation System Review

Rechargeable Micro Cassette Recorder with Voice Activation SystemThis recorder is very small and highly sensitive. Not having experience with the newer recorders this was a surprise. The picture does not do it justice for its petite size.It measures 7/8" wide, 2-5/8" wide (including button tops) and 4-5/8" tall. This would be an easy fit for a front shirt pocket with plenty of room for extra pens.
The exterior of this recorder is plastic, not metal as the silver color might suggest.Long term use may wear off the silver color, but I haven't had mine long enough to tell.It looked a little cheaper than I expected it to.However, a metal exterior would have made it heavier and certainly more expensive.
While learning to use the recorder I found the directions left a lot to be desired.Showing how to put the batteries in and charge them may seem okay in a single graphic, but when it came to recording and playback with the multitude of settings possible they were virtually useless.
It took a number of times for me to realize that if you record using VAS (voice activated system), in order to play normal speed you have to move the middle switch from VAS/FAST PLAY to OFF.This is because this switch controls the recorder in both record and playback modes. This was not intuitive and a real no-no as far as usability. If you want to record and then replay in normal speed right away, you can't just rewind and play, you have to rewind, change this setting and then hit play. Odds are then when you go to record again, you'll forget to put it back into VAS.I don't like the way they implemented this.
I found the sound quality to be excellent for my uses which are primarily in a single average room size with little background noise and only a couple of voices. However, this recorder boasts that with the Sound Level Equalizer (SLE) setting this can be used in classrooms and larger conference type settings.I plan on trying this but haven't yet.The additional speed settings also seem a plus to play back, if you have a lot of notes to review.
I did find the VAS (voice activated system) worked real well.I'm not a slow talker and it did not clip my first words at all. It promptly stopped when speaking stopped too.Much I'm sure will depend on the volume you set.The sensitivity you set it at will most likely effect this performance.
Recorder volume uses the same volume knob that you also use to hear the playback.I found this confusing in the instructions as well. Even though the knob has no numbers the intructions give you numbers to set the volume knob at to record various sounds by.You have to guess what the range of 1-10 are based on playing with the knob.
I can't speak to how it will perform in larger room or noisier environment as I haven't tried this yet.
Having a charger and AC cable is a worthwhile addition. The batteries and charger unit add about $15 value to the unit above the recorder it self.
Since the RN305 unit is similar to this and about $28, you have to decide if the addtional Sound Level Equalizer and this battery and charger assembly add $21 more value to you.It was to me.

Sony TCM-450DV Standard Cassette Voice Recorder (Silver) Review

Zenith Allegro ABV441 Progressive Scan DVD Player Hi-Fi Stereo VCR Video Cassette Recorder CombinationI have used this product for 1 year and I had no problems what so ever with this product. If you have S-Video on your TV then you can hook this player directly using S-Video assuring you best of DVD Quality becuase its Digital Direct instead of going through Digital --to Analog conversion using regular RCA Cables.

Memorex MB2190 Micro Cassette Recorder Review

Memorex MB2190 Micro Cassette RecorderExcellent tool from Memorex! I've had this for quite a while now and NEVER has it failed me. I've used this on trips, classrooms, photo shoots & have let my children use it for their school projects and it continues to provide service and is always a very reliable aide.
The knock on the battery usage is noted, but if you purchase the more expensive type, then it cancels the problem out. There is also the responsibility of taking the cheap batteries out when the unit is not being used. Aside from this minute hassle, the product is worth the money. Thumbs up!

Sony M-450 Microcassette Recorder with 30 Hours of Battery Life Review

Sony M-450 Microcassette Recorder with 30 Hours of Battery LifeI found this Sony recorder perfect for making quick dictation notes, so much so that I constantly use it and may well purchase a second one as a backup. It is ergonomically well designed, the appropriate control buttons easily accessed, and doesn't attempt to look fancy like theOlympus models. It has a clear voice replay, with a very well designed Cue and Review Control (rather oval shaped, so you don't accidentally hit any wrong buttons), the record button is prominently red and the microphone silver, so it's hard to make any mistakes in recording or accidentally erasing information. Similarly, the Pause control reveals a red spot when activated, so you don't have to guess if the machine is actually on pause or not. An unexpected feature is the stereo sound when you plug in a pair of earphones: unlike your standard tape recorder that will only provide sound through one phone in a headset, this recorder feeds sounds to both sides of a headphone. As the manufacturer description indicates, it has two speeds to extend cassette length. If you want a personal dictation recorder that is as small as can be expected, is inconspicuous and literally compact, then this is a wise and economical purchase.

The two-speed record/playback offers an option of recording the microcassette at either normal speed or half-normal speed. This feature ultimately gives you an extended recording opportunity.
The recorder's LED light provides up-to-minute battery life information. To help save battery and mechanical wear, the M-450 has automatic shut-off. Sony M2000A Microcassette Transcribing Machine Review

Sony M2000A Microcassette Transcribing MachineOn the positive side, the transcriber was delivered quickly. Packaging was very good, with all of the required accessories that was advertised. The size was perfect as a spacesaver, and it looked very contemporary and professional. However, the counter is extremely small. You would need a magnifying glass to read the counter. Also, when the foot pedal is pressed either to go forward or backward, there is a loud, annoying sound. I tried to transcribe a short tape, but the loud sound whenever the pedal was pressed, was just too aggravating. Due to time constraints and an extremely busy schedule, I was unable to return the transcriber.Overall, the transcriber lives up to SONY's reputation as far as performance is concerned, however, I was very disappointed with the foot pedal. I went back to using my old transcriber (not a SONY).

Panasonic RN305 Micro Cassette Recorder with Voice Activation System Review

Panasonic RN305 Micro Cassette Recorder with Voice Activation SystemI'm a writer for a college newspaper.Money isn't something that I can just toss around. However, I needed a micro-cassette recorder for interviews.
I saw this one, it was much cheaper than the digital recorders that I was looking at.I tried it as soon as I got home.If you buy this, be sure to pick up a 3pk of micro-cassettes and 2 AA batteries.
It has worked pretty well.I don't use the voice activation feature. Making sure to get everything that I need on tape is far to important, so I just record.
I really wish that this also had a spot for a plug in microphone. It would really come in handy when trying to get some comments when you are standing in a crowd.A wrist strap would also be nice, so you don't have to worry about dropping this thing.
If you can afford a digital recorder, get it.If you can't or aren't going to use it enough to make it worth spending that kind of money, this is a great alternative.

Sony CFD-F10 CD / Radio / Cassette Recorder, Silver Review

Sony CFD-F10 CD / Radio / Cassette Recorder, SilverTo begin with, I've never been into "boom-boxes".Now, however, I do lectures on classical music and opera, and I needed something "portable" to take with me on my lectures, but something that had good sound, since I play music with a full symphony orchestra, as well as a lot of opera. When I took this little machine home, I was a little skeptical. When I put on a cassette tape of Verdi's "Aida" no less, I was completely shocked
at the sheer vividness and sharpness of the sound.Even on full volume, there was no distortion. This machine is amazing, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who is on a budget and who wants to have a portable machine with great sound.

Sangean ATS-818ACS AM/FM/SW Receiver with Programmable Cassette Recorder Review

Sangean ATS-818ACS AM/FM/SW Receiver with Programmable Cassette RecorderI bought the Sangean ATS-818ACS because it was recommended and because of its programmable cassette recorder. I was especially interested in listening to shortwave broadcasts for the first time and to recording AM/FM programs that I miss because I work nights. From Day 1, the radio was a pain to use. The manual was written in Taiwan by someone who could barely read and write English. Shortwave reception was dreadful, even after purchasing an outside antenna at Radio Shack. The programmable cassette recorder doesn't include a cut-off time, so the recorder runs until the tape ends, and you can only record one broadcast. Plus, the radio comes on every day at the programmed time until you reset a new time, then the radio comes on daily at that new time. The manual doesn't explain how to avoid that annoyance. ...

Product Description:
This portable radio/cassette recorder is a short-wave enthusiast's dream, offering FM, AM, and short-wave radio reception (all short-wave bands from 120 to 11 meters), as well as a built-in cassette recorder that can be programmed to record specific stations at specific times. The ATS-818ACS also features a beat-frequency oscillator for single sideband (SSB) and continuous wave (CW) (i.e., Morse code) reception--broadcasting methods often employed by amateur radio practitioners.
This is a dual-conversion receiver, meaning it passes the incoming signals through two intermediate stages to eliminate interference and more precisely select its incoming channels. It has five tuning methods: direct frequency input, auto scan, manual scan, memory recall, and rotary dial. The ATS-818ACS has 45 memory presets to help you hop to favorite stations in a jiffy. The receiver's output power is 800 mW, and it uses a single 3-inch, 4-ohm speaker.
For operating power, the unit needs four D batteries with an optional three AA batteries for backup. An AC adapter is included. Other features include a radio/buzzer clock alarm, a wide/narrow filter for AM radio, an adjustable sleep timer, RF gain control, a tone control with safety lock, a signal strength and battery indicator, and dual time display for local time and Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Continuous AM coverage ranges from 150 to 29999 kHz, while FM reception covers 87.5 to 108 MHz. The ATS-818ACS comes with an external antenna adapter and a short-wave handbook.

Sony M530V Microcassette Recorder Review

Sony M530V Microcassette RecorderAfter using this product for only a year, it konked out on me. I didn't use it every day, either. The sound quality was fair to good, but the rewind/FF was pretty slow. The tape counter was a nice feature. I'm not too sure about Sony's product quality anymore. A few other electronics I've purchased have not lasted very long at all. This recorder just stopped working for no reason. Changing batteries didn't help and it was never dropped or damaged.

FACTORY REFURBISHED Pokemon Pikachu VCR Video Cassette Recorder with 19 Micron Head and 2 Remotes (1 Pikachu Stuff Toy Remote) Review

FACTORY REFURBISHED Pokemon Pikachu VCR Video Cassette Recorder with 19 Micron Head and 2 RemotesI bought this because it has a co-axial connection setup. But the vcr isn't reliable.Sometimes it will not take a tape at all; sometimes it starts recording but then mysteriously shuts down almost immediately and ejects the tape. And sometimes it takes the tape and records just fine.It has never recorded two separate programs-it records the first but the second, some hours later, is just ejected, and without erasing the program on the menu. That has to be done separately. All in all I cannot recommend this product-whoever rebuilt it didn't do it properly and it has to be "wiggled" to get it to work at all.

SuperSonic SC-712CD Portable CD Player Cassette Recorder Boombox Review

SuperSonic SC-712CD Portable CD Player Cassette Recorder BoomboxI bought this unit simply to record to tape from CD, since I still have a tape player in my work truck. Once I figured out the control keys from the skimpy 'Instruction Manual' I actually was able to record a cassette. Unfortunately, when I play it back, the sound is distorted, with hiss, wobbly sound, and what sounds like old AM radio static. Songs with drums on track two (voice on track one) sound like tick-tack noises. Also, there is no semblance of bass/treble, just a mushy mix. I have recorded lots of cassettes on a Sony boombox that I had for 10 years (cost $99), but the SC-712 is not even close in recorded sound quality.
OK... now I know why I'm the first reviewer.

Sanyo VWM-710 Hi-Fi 4 Head Hi-Fi Stereo VCR Video Cassette Recorder with TV Guardian Feature (NO MANUAL INCLUDED, BRAND NEW VCR & REMOTE ONLY) Review

Sanyo VWM-710 Hi-Fi 4 Head Hi-Fi Stereo VCR Video Cassette Recorder with TV Guardian FeatureI'M GOING TO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT MY VCR IS THE SANYO 700, NOT THE 710. BUT I BELIEVE IT'S CLOSE ENOUGH TO GIVE YOU SOME IDEA, INSTEAD OF HAVING NO REVIEWS AT ALL:

The Sanyo 700 Vcr is one of electronics best kept secrets. The good looking 4 head Vcr with 19 Micronized heads plays, and records beautifully all tapes weather new or old, slow speeds or fast speeds. The video is excellent, on sp, ep or slp recorded tapes.

The ep (slow speed), gets 6 taped hours on a t-120, 8hrs on a 160. The unit records in 2 speeds, sp and ep. (and that's all you need)
It has self cleaning heads anduniversal remote which also runs my Sony Trinitron TV.

The sound is very clear and excellent due to it's hi-fi component. You can actually see the tape counter on screen if you depress the ck counter button. And unlike many vcr's like my sharp, it leaves the counter on screen while you're fast forwarding or rewinding so you don't have to guess where you are. The exception is when you're fast forwarding or rewinding when the movie is on screen. Then the counter disappears, but you don't get those vertical lines across the screen like you get with cheaper vcr's when you perform that operation.

The machine has auto-tracking to adjust the picture for you, but it also has manual tracking if you want to play with it further- again, something most vcr's don't have - both tracking systems.

It plays tapes recorded from other vcr's perfectly. And it works great on dubbing.

Now on the flip side, as of 2010, Sanyo, no longer provides any customer support for vcr's like panasonic and sharpe still do - even old ones. But I don't think you'll need it, because everything is very clear and simple in the manual.

There's no menu button on the Sanyo 700 panel as there is on my sharpe h982u vcr, (which I also reviewed on this website). That means if the remote breaks you cannot access the internal menu system, set up, channell search, timer record, clock settings. This is about the biggest drawback I see. But if that happens, wallah, you get another remote!

The remote is slow to program the timer record. When setting the time for the record, you can only move the minutes hand and not the hour hand. You can program for up to one year ahead of time.Of course if you just press the record button on the remote to record what's on screen, that takes 1 second.

The rewind and fast forward speed (when just rewinding tape for example without viewing the picture) is slow compared to other vcr's I've had. However, in light of how many vcr's eat up tapes and how many tapes have snapped, I believe that Sanyo purposely reduced the speed for tape safety reasons to prevent the destruction of the tape. It would take a few minutes to rewind a tape though.

Sanyo makes the 700 and 800 series vcr's. The 800's are the cheaper ones and I don't recommend them - too many problems. The 700's are better. The model # 710 sanyo retailed for $229.00. This 700 Sanyo vcr looks and acts more like the 710. It does not look like the 800's. I'm telling you this because I don't know what the original cost of this machine was, I got it as a gift, brand new in the box.
------------------------------------
MY BUYING ADVICE ON VCRS.
In my own buying experience, Panasonic and Toshiba's have held well for 10 years of use. Sharp makes one with a super sharp picture function which plays older vcr tapes better. Some people rave about Sony, but some reviews on the web say some models are better than others and reliability / durability have been the main problems. The off brands are usually not good - stick to major brands.

Look for vcrs that have hi-fi sound, not mono sound, with or without self cleaning heads, can record and play in at least 2 speeds, (fast and slow) sp/slp or sp/ep, has a remote, manual and are new or not too old, or old but lightly used. The older ones are built better.

These stand alone vcrs play much better and hold up much longer than the vcr drives in the dvd/vcr combos. They are not that difficult to hook up to a cable box, digital converter box and are still the cheapest way to record shows. Vcr tapes are 99 cents now. And can hold 6 to 8 hours of recordings.

I personally have two vcr's, (one sanyo, one sharp) one sony dvd player, all connected and hooked up to a digital converter box and a Sony Trinitron Tube TV. And all work perfectly. if you have any other questions about vcr's, buying, operations or connections, please , email me at abcsoaps@cs.com.

Final Note:
Vcr's play okay on the newer digital tv's, but play much better on an old analog tv that was designed for it. Of course if you're a dvd person all of this is null and void for ya. But remember when Dvd's are scratched or get finger prints on them, they malfunction too.

Good luck.

Sony BM575 Portable Microcassette Dictator Review

Sony BM575 Portable Microcassette DictatorI have owned three Lanier Microcassette Recorders over the past thirty years. It was everything they advertised it to be. When I went to buy one this time they were no longer being made. They were replaced by this Sony BM-575. It isn't half the recorder that the Lanier was. You can't record in noisy areas without picking up all the background noises. The plaback is nowhere as clear as the Lanier. If I could find a Lanier right now I would buy one and throw this Sony away.

RCA Digital 128 MB built in flash Memory voice recorder Review

RCA Digital 128 MB built in flash Memory voice recorderI did not get this device for the camera. At 0.3Mp, it is not as good as my Philips key019 at 2Mp (too bad they don't make those anymore). It came with it, so I have it Picture seems ok. Probably comparable to some phones.

It seems to offer all the settings that one may want for a voice recorder: Quality control (3 settings), mic sensitivity (conf, dictation) and AVR with AVR level setting.
I do not intend to use less than the HQ (best) level recording as you can already put more than 8 hours of it on there. At that level, the sound is clear. It seems to pick up well with the internal mic and maybe better with the provided external mic (but the difference would not justify going through great length to use the external one).
I saw some other review for other RCA voice recorders on the quality of the sound where people could not make the difference between 's' and 'f' and what not, but I don't experience this with this device. All seems clear. Obviously, background noise will act the way it usually does (as it does with camcorders...)

Connectivity: this is why I took 4 stars and not 5.
It seems that with version 1.07 of the firmware, there is a problem with computers that have external HDs (plugged in or not).
Without any, the connectivity works fine. With one, you might have a problem hanging the Windows explorer when trying to view the RCA files (voice or images) in the Windows explorer (it will hang).
The work around (until they provide a fw update), is to change the drive letter from the external HD (my Seagate on E:) to something else (like S:). Then you can connect the RCA device that will happily work. You can then change the drive letter for the RCA device (from the Disk Manager starting under the Administrative tools -at least on XP-) to R: for example and restore the drive letter for the external HD to E:.
Then all will work fine. Nothing should really try to use R: (way up in the list). So connectivity problems with external HDs, but you have the work around here.
This issue with the "solution" has been passed on to RCA and if they follow through, they should fix this in the newer device or provide a firmware update that should fix this so that you won't have to deal with this issue, if you encounter it.

Overall, I like this recorder.
It's intuitive.
It does what I want it to do. I can hear and understand what I record (I'm not getting HiFi stereo, but it's also not a very expensive recorder).
Buttons are ok (not too cheap, but not high end either).
You get what you pay for. Considering that there are some that are 4x the price, at this price, I think the package is quite fine.
People who leave comments on this tend to forget this. If you pay less than the maximum, you can't be complaining about what's missing on it (like the key019 where people would complain about not having the bells and whistles, but it's perfect for in the pocket and for someone like my mother: easy to use and yet still gives very descent pictures... so descent that I don't see myself get a bigger 5Mp camera for myself and just use my wife's...).
They also provide the NiMh AAA that you need and it will recharge off the base, which is convenient (if you run out, you can always stick some regular AAA that you can get anywhere, but I would be careful about plugging it in the USB base with regular AAA because you don't want to recharge regular AAA!).
External mix is really nice to have and the pouch is a bit like some cellphone pouches. It's open on the top, so you can be recording with it in the pouch (doesn't cover the internal mic at the top).
Could have wished for more memory or external SD slot, but with more than 8h with HQ, it's probably more than I care to keep on the device. I could try lowering the quality (maybe not so noticeable) to get more hours, but usually with more memory, people tends to leave a lot of unnecessary files that do nothing more than take some space... With the older tape, you only got 30mn (or maybe 1h) in the HQ and the quality of the sound was not as good as with this device.
With the docking station, it is easy to move the files from 'it' to the computer and make some space for later... and you recharge it at the same time...

As for durability, I don't know yet as I have only had this device for 24h. I don't expect any problems.

I hope this helps.

PANRR930 - Analog Micro Cassette Recorder/Transcriber Model RR930 Review

PANRR930 - Analog Micro Cassette Recorder/Transcriber Model RR930I ordered this transcriber but ended up returning it.Everything seemed to work well but I couldn't tolerate the noise the tape made during the auto-rewind.This transcriber requires that the play button is engaged in order for the foot pedal to operate.Because of this, as you let off the foot pedal and the tape rewinds just a bit to allow you to catch up, the tape screeches in your ear as it does so.I couldn't concentrate enough to remember what I was typing. Not a good feature.Probably wears tapes down, too, since it is under that stress as it rewinds.

Panasonic PV-V4520 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR Review

Panasonic PV-V4520 4-Head Hi-Fi VCRThis is a very solid VCR.It does a good job at recording as well as playback.Programming is very, very easy--I didn't even need the manual to figure it out, there are on screen directions which are real easy tofollow. The only weak part of this unit is the remote. The channel andvolume buttons are really small, so it is a little difficult to use atfirst, especially in the dark. This isn't a real big deal to me, but itwould be nice if these buttons were bigger. It is also nice that you canuse all the functions of the VCR without the remote, which is nice forthose of use who have the tendency to lose the remote.

Sony TCM-400DV Pressman Standard Cassette Recorder Review

Sony TCM-400DV Pressman Standard Cassette RecorderI love the voice activation feature of this recorder- it works like a charm. There is rather high background hum- I haven't tried playing back with noise reduction but that might do the trick.I could only get it to work on 1.5V batteries and not my 1.2V NiMH rechargeables, even though fully charged- a disadvantage though 1.5V rechargeable alkaline batteries are apparently available. This little recorder otherwise filled the bill very nicely.

GE 35364 Mini Cassette Recorder (Silver) Review

GE 35364 Mini Cassette RecorderI just recently bought my second one of these. I've been very happy with the performance of the 3-5364B Cassette Recorder.
What I like about the recorder is that it takes full-sized cassettes that can be played in your car cassette player. This is good if you're weird like me and read to yourself and want to hear your own homemade audiobook in the car while you're driving. I also use it to tape my phone messages before I erase them, because I may like the sound of their voice, and because maybe future kids will want to know what their grandmother sounded like. I also liked the fact that it fit so well in my hand.
It has a headphone jack, so that if you wanted to listen to an audio book and had a PROPER AC adapter (3V) you could go to bed with your favorite book. Don't expect Dolby noise reduction and stereo sound with this guy. It's very basic.
My first one was VERY good on batteries. I had it over a year, and I hadn't changed the batteries since I bought it. I used Duracell Alkaline AAs. These same batteries are now in my new one and doing fine.
The variable speed playback seems a useless feature since it does have a fast forward button which works better. The mic has two sensitivities low and high...it's got a pause, which I suppose works better than the STOP button. Again, my uses for the recorder are fairly straight forward so I rarely use these features.
There is one design flaw, in my opinion. When you load the tape, realize that the side that you can see through the window is the side you are playing. Looking at the device that way the buttons are below the window facing you. You're fine if you go strictly by the symbols on the buttons for rewind, play, fast forward, etc. However, you quickly notice that if you use it that way, the lettering that goes with the buttons is upside-down! This could be disastrous if you didn't realize this and flipped the recorder over, rewinding instead of forwarding! They really need to fix this if they make a new model.
I mentioned that this is the second one I've bought...I'll explain what happened to the first one.
The first one died by accident...I fried it using the AC adapter to my desktop paper shredder. Potential buyers should know this little recorder doesn't come with its own AC adapter. In and of itself, that wasn't a big deal to me, since I used mine for over a year without ever needing one. It's just this ONE TIME I wanted to not drain the batteries by going to bed with a new relaxation tape a friend sent me, and I thought I could use one the myriad adapters from portable CD players I have lying around to fit it, but the shape of the adapter fittings on all of them were just different enough to not work. Except one. The one to my shredder WAS the right shape, but, alas, wrong voltage! OOPS! Lesson learned: make sure the adapter is set for 3 volts and not higher! Not knowing whether I could revive the old one, I just bought another one since it was my fault it was no longer working.
But, all in all, I liked the device enough to buy another one, so there you go. It might also be noted that both recorders cost about a twenty percent less than what they're selling it for at Amazon.com. I hope this is helpful.
