Coby TF-DVD8503 8.5-Inch Widescreen TFT Portable DVD/CD/MP3 Player with Swivel Screen, Black Review

Coby TF-DVD8503 8.5 inch Widescreen TFT Portable DVD/CD/MP3 Player with Swivel Screen, BlackWhen the dvd player arrived I was really impressed with all of its features: 1. car mount for the headrest, 2. remote control, 3. swivel and 4. car charger.

Major Advantages: 1. extremely functional; 2. battery last for over 2 hours and if the battery runs low, you can always plug it into the the car charger; 3. the screen is large enough to view across the room; 4. you can use the remote from nearly 8 feet away and 5. most of all it works!! :>

Disadvantages: 1. you can not control the volume with the remote and 2. for the price, the material of the dvd player does not appear to be of quality (it feels like plastic).

All in all it is a great product and so far so good.My 2 year old received it for Christmas and he never leaves home without it!

Sony SLV-N55 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR Review

Sony SLV-N55 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR1) Like someone else wrote, I too get this disturbance at regular intervals when playing back with the SLV-N55. For me it occurs with some recordings made by other VCRs and pre-recorded videos.
Every 5 to 10 seconds, the picture will jitter vertically for a second. I played around with the tracking to no avail. If it's because of the condition of the tapes or the recordings are a year old, that's still no excuse because these same particular tapes play perfectly stable on my other 3 Panasonic VCRs, and it should have no problem with pre-recorded tapes ESPECIALLY.
(Side Note: I have a Panasonic PV-V4522 that makes recordings with a severe vertical jitter on older tapes, leaving you with a bad recording, but if I re-record over the same tape at the same speed, that recording will be stable... go figure)
A hyper-sensitive VCR that requires mint condition tapes to play a decent picture (in the Panasonic's case, to record one)is not very useful then, because you'll WANT to watch and use your tapes and videos in the future, and you can't store your cassettes in a vacuum, electro-magnetic and gravity free chamber or something.
2) While so far the SLV-N55 has no problems playing back recordings made by itself, the quality of those recordings is not to my liking. It seems to record with more color bleed than other VCRs. Also there is this noticeable outline to the right of every object in the picture, resembling a slight "ghost" effect like with poor reception on a TV with rabbit ears or turning the sharpness too high on your set. (I get digital cable)
If this is what 19 Micron quality is all about, then no thank you. I had an Optimus 19 Micron VCR long ago and while playback of it's recordings were fine, playing back of those same recordings on another VCR was very grainy.
They should just keep everything the standard 26 Microns and all will be fine. So from now on I will avoid the feature "19 Micron Heads" like the plague. : P

Product Description:
Don't miss a minute of your favorite shows or tapes. Sony's compact, 14-inch-wide SLV-N55 is packed with features like flash rewind, commercial skip, and Instant Replay so you can rewind T-120 tapes in less than 60 seconds, flip past commercials with the touch of a button, and replay sports or movie scenes missed the first time around. A camcorder or gaming console plugs right into the SLV-N55's front panel for hassle-free connections.
This model's four-head design ensures smooth slow-motion play (forward and reverse) and clear still-frame images, and with hi-fi sound the unit records and plays back stereo audio tracks. If routing the stereo output to an AV receiver, you can even enjoy four-channel (left, center, right, and monaural surround) Dolby Pro Logic mixes from TV and Dolby-encoded cassettes. The SLV-N55's dual-azimuth construction uses two pairs of recording heads rather than one, each optimized for a specific mode (one for SP recording, the other for EP), while 19-micron heads deliver the clearest possible picture when recording or viewing in EP (extended-play) mode.
Plug & Play guarantees easy set up with auto tuner preset and AutoClock set for all VCR tuner channels. ChildLoc circuitry protects tapes and kids from harm. Other features include index scan and a one-month/eight-event timer. The unit comes with a multibrand TV/VCR remote control.

JVC HR-S9600U Super VHS VCR Review

JVC HR-S9600U Super VHS VCRI bought this VCR to replace my 10-year old trusty Sony VCR. Unfortunately, Sony no longer offered a VCR which allowed adjustment of audio levels during record ...
Overall, I've been pleased with this VCR after 3 years of ownership. The picture quality is OUTSTANDING, and the digital noise reduction is fantastic. At the time, JVC was the only manufacturer offering this feature - since then Sony and others have introduced similar features.
I only have 2 complaints with the model:
1) The tape transport mechanism is VERY sluggish and imprecise. When you hit STOP the tape "slides" for a few seconds before it actually stops. Same with PLAY, etc. Certainly NOT the dead-stop response that Sony VCRs offer. Apparently, this is a standard design flaw with all JVC VCRs. (I have not tested their latest models)
2) The cable box control does not allow channels greater than 199. Perhaps in 1999 when this VCR was released, that was acceptable. Today with the advent of Digital cable and satellite, you I can no longer use it to control my recording. (interestingly enough, my "lower end" Sony VCR which I purchased at the same time as this unit DOES allow channels up to 999)

RCA RP3714 Dual Wake Clock Radio Review

RCA RP3714 Dual Wake Clock RadioI love how this clock looks, I love that if I tap the top, I get a glowy blue nightlight, I love the nap button, programmable from 20 minutes to 2 hours, I love the ease of use with the buttons placement, it even has good reception for the radio.

I hate that I bought it at the beginning of April 06 and by August half the lines that made up the numbers on the face no longer worked. It is impossible to read the clock anymore. I hate that when I went to the point of sale, they no longer carry it, and when I went to RCA, they no longer even show it on their site.

TDK D MC60 - Microcassette - 3 x 60min Review

TDK D MC60 - Microcassette - 3 x 60minNot that many people will see this, as these are somewhat discontinued. When I bought my Olympus PearlCorder S912, a Panasonic MC60 tape came with it. I was pleased with the quality of results I was getting (I'm a musician and I do demos on these things) and it actually had a harmonic quality that emphasized my voice and the good musical harmonics in the songs. I bought some of these Gold TDKs to have spares, and though the average ear probably couldn't tell one mite of a difference, I noticed that the harmonic quality is not as good on these and actually makes my bad notes stand out more (I'm a less than perfect singer, and don't especially care when getting ideas down to tape). The sound is more metallic and shrill. Never thought there'd be a difference in tape quality between brands!

The Panasonic leaves me feeling good about the captured demos, the TDK makes me want to re-record to get a better sounding demo. I guess I don't like these and will be buying the Panasonic ones instead.

Sharp VCH993U Hi-Fi VCR Review

Sharp VCH993U Hi-Fi VCRI bought 2 of these already for $120 each and thought I got a deal for a very good quality machine. I'm buying 1 more at this fabulous price to use with one on my existing VCRs because 2 of these are cheaper than buying a Go Video dual deck machine.

Product Description:
If you hate waiting for videotapes to rewind, this is the VCR for you. Sharp's VCH993U contains a rapid rewind feature that can take a two-hour tape from its end to beginning in about one minute.Another feature is the front-based audio and video jacks, which make it easy to add an additional device - such as a camcorder - without having to access the back of the unit. With strong features and a crisp, clear picture, the Sharp VCH993U is a solid value. This Sharp VCR is an affordable alternative to high-end models that are heavy on frivolous features. This model has all the essentials, including four video heads and hi-fi stereo sound that deliver the video and audio performance you would expect from a major brand like Sharp. Advanced features include Super VHS (S-VHS) compatibility, index search, rapid rewind, and auto head cleaning. The video quality benefits from Sharp's own super-picture technology, which brings clearer, more detailed pictures by minimizing white noise during video playback. In addition, Sharp has equipped this VCR with a 19-micron video head, which preserves video and sound quality during slower recording and playback speeds. For even higher video quality, you can use Super VHS (S-VHS) tapes for playback on this model.

Toshiba W403 4-Head Mono VCR Review

Toshiba W403 4-Head Mono VCRThis VCR will not record in HiFi sound or play back tapes recorded in HiFi. Only HiFi VCRs have that capability. This VCR only has linear capability. This VCR will only play and record in monaural sound. The linear track on this unit has no stereo capability. If you are going to be recording in the SP mode and playback the sound just through your TV that is not a big factor. You will not notice the difference of the signal-to-noise ratio between HiFi and linear sound that much. HiFi sound has an excellent signal-to-noise ratio and has a greater dynamic range than linear sound. If you do a lot of recording in the SLP mode the linear signal-to-noise ratio is terrible. You are going to hear a lot of tape hiss. If you play linear sound in the EP mode back through a system you are going to hear increased noise over the recorded sound. On a HiFi VCR the signal-to-noise ratio between LP and SLP speeds in negligible and hardly noticeable to the ear. On all HiFi VCRs the sound is excellent in any speed. That's the bottom line. This unit has four video heads so you will get excellent results in the pause, still and frame advance features. I am not sure if the recording heads are 19 micron on this unit. 19 micron recording heads give you a better picture in the SLP mode. You should check that out for yourself. If sound is not a big factor for you, this is a good unit.

Toshiba W704 6-Head Hi-Fi VCR Review

Toshiba W704 6-Head Hi-Fi VCRI struggled with the purchase of a VCR recently because my 14 year old top-of -the line Sears (made by Samsung) was beginning to get tired and worn out. That VCR had a minimum of 1-3 hours of use per day since new. Needless to say I wanted a replacement that was of equal quality anddurability.I found the features of this unit to be the most logical andusable in its class.
This unit is truly unique and a breeze to set up. You just plug in your TV connections and then the VCR to the electricaloutlet and walk away from it for an hour. The front display will note thatit is in AUTO mode and it automatically sets your channels and the clock! What could be easier? How about setting up the remote to operate my ZenithTV (the only time I really needed the manual)? Hold down the remote'sprogram key and type in the 2-digit code and viola - it's done.
Now forthe operation of the VCR: I instructed my 7 and 4 year old sons to studythe remote and the VCR front panel; they were watching movies in a coupleof minutes and later showed their Grandpa how everything works. It's thatsimple.
We didn't realize how much we were missing with a stereo two-headmachine and then stepping up to a six-head HI-FI.The picture quality andsound clarity is extraordinary!I am a fanatic with sound and this unitreally rocks.Considering the flexibility of a VCR compared to DVDs atthis point in the technology cycle -if you are looking for high qualitysound, picture, ease of set up/use and over-all quality BUY THIS VCR. Don'tbe fooled into going cheap on a VCR, if you do, you will spend more moneyover time with less quality and more frustration.Ordering the unit wasalso a snap, it arrived sooner than I expected, double-boxed and packedvery well. This model carries one-year, parts and labor warranty as notedin the manual. Go for it!

Product Description:
Toshiba's W704, a mid-priced 6-head hi-fi stereo VCR, is appropriate for cable and satellite users who want to get the best out of the standard VHS format, but don't require S-VHS Quasi Playback. Two of this VCR's six heads are 19-micron heads, which will yield nearly the same picture quality in the 6-hour EP mode as they will in the 2-hour SP mode. Unlike 4-head VCRs with 19-micron heads, the W704 has a full set of four standard heads that are optimized for SP mode, so you don't sacrifice image quality in SP mode to get better EP pictures. MTS and SAP reception enable you to soak in the stereo and foreign-language signals broadcast by many major TV stations. The shuttle control on the front panel makes precise fast-forwarding and rewinding as simple as turning the dial. Programming the W704's 6-event/1-year timer is easy using VCR Plus+ with C3. The "C3" denotes that the VCR Plus+ can control your cable box or satellite receiver when recording. Finally, the glow-in-the-dark buttons on the universal remote won't leave you fumbling in the darkness when the phone rings while you're in the middle of a movie. Standard features include Toshiba's V3 design, which features "flying" video preamps mounted right in the video head drum for lower noise. The deck also offers auto clock set and auto head cleaning. Common among VCRs of this caliber - yet still very convenient for camcorder and video game enthusiasts - are the front-panel A/V inputs.

Sylvania DVC845E DVD/VCR Dual-Deck Combo Review

Sylvania DVC845E DVD/VCR Dual-Deck ComboThis is a good price and a good device. It plays videos and also DVDs. While there are several things missing from the features list and the manual shows many limitations it does what you want it to. I have had no trouble with my cassettes, even the old ones (for which I bought this device). DVD playback is simple and is lead by an on screen display.

Bear in mind that the device may have trouble with a few discs. I have yet to try any homemade DVDs but when I do I will update.

All in all, a good DVD player and a great VCR. Best of both ages and a good price.

Sony EV-C200 Hi-8 VCR Review

Sony SLV-N88 4-Head Hi-Fi Stereo VCR Review

Sony SLV-N88 4-Head Hi-Fi Stereo VCRFirst of all. Reading all the previous reviews about the clock being 21 sec in a week late and others gets me thinking. Personally, don't care about seconds per week ratio.
Next- playability of some tapes. I used to own a video store so I still have lots of tapes left: old, used, retaped. Everything works. But one thing is for sure. I paid $89 for this VCR and I know what to expect. I also have Mitsubishi top of the line , bought 4 years ago for almost $360. And tell you the truth, you cant expect your Mercedes 290to perform like Mercedes 500. The same with this VCR - it gets the job done. It even played the tape that I couldn't play on my Mitsu(the screen was blue, because this Mitsu it very sensitive to some kind of tape imperfection). So it's well worth the money and don't wory that it doesn't have S-VHS. All the tapes hollywood still makes is VHS , because it's standard. and there will not be otherwise.
So if the price is right for you , just get it.
I'd give it 5 stars but it's just not a five star product.

Product Description:
Housed in a silver chassis that complements Sony's Wega line of TVs and components, the SLV-N88 four-head VCR is a favorite among people who enjoy a little style with their substance. The unit's four dual azimuth recording heads deliver a superior picture in both SP and the slower EP mode--the latter nearly matching the former in clarity. In addition, the device employs hi-fi stereo recording and MTS stereo TV reception, allowing the user to enjoy optimal audio for both recording and playback. Other features include commercial skip, which automatically advances the tape 30 seconds at the touch of a button; flash rewind, which completely rewinds a T-120 tape in a mere 60 seconds; and an eight-event/one month programmable timer.
Users will appreciate the plug-and-play setup, which lets people use the VCR right out of the box (the channels tune and the clock sets automatically). The multilingual onscreen display also enhances the user experience, as does the index scan, which helps locate a specific program on the tape without fuss. Rather than manual tracking, the SLV-N88 offers sophisticated digital tracking that automatically smoothes playback. The VCR also includes auto head cleaning, a parental lock feature, and front AV inputs for connecting to a camcorder or game system. In addition, the SLV-N88 is Energy Star compliant.

Teac - Print ribbon cassette - 1 x black Review

Teac - Print ribbon cassette - 1 x blackThe best advice that I can give about this ribbon is related with the way to use the 4 printing areas in which P-11 TEAC software lets you print. Even when you choose to print a small heading, it uses about three inches of ribbon for EACH area resulting in a big waste of ribbon and unused ink. I may suggest the use of only ONE area per CD taking all the advantage of the area space given by the software. In my case, I can print almost 120 CD's with only one ribbon with the mentioned recomendation.

jWin JXCD462 AM/FM Portable CD Boombox With Cassette Playback Review

jWin JXCD462 AM/FM Portable CD Boombox With Cassette PlaybackA very affordable multi-purpose sound machine with generally easy-to-use controls* and better-than-expected sound quality. Though light-weight, the bulky (and to my taste unattractive) design is hard to fit on the shelves in my kitchen. Also, nothing in the description notes that portable use requires no fewer than EIGHT D-cells. If you choose rechargeable batteries (the sensible choice if you're using batteries most of the time), you'll spend much more money on the power supply than you did on the original player! Myself, I bought an extension cord, so I can't speak to battery life.

In short, for a reliable, listenable basic system, this is an excellent choice.

*The old-fashioned analog radio tuner can be difficult to use in large metropolitan areas with scores of radio stations. Not a problem if you just stick to a favorite station, however.

Sony SLV-N700 Hi-Fi VHS VCR Review

Sony SLV-N700 Hi-Fi VHS VCRThe quality and dependability of SONY's VCRs over the past few years were in a terrible state of decline. SONY made some very good VCRs in the past. SONY's SLV-N700 Hi-Fi VHS VCR demonstrates a continuing genuine effort to return to the type of quality product they were once known for. This unit records very well and playback of pre-recorded tapes look excellent as well. What really impressed me was the playback image of EP recordings. This sounds a little unbelievable but black & white movies recorded in EP look better than those recorded in SP.This unit also has an incredibly fast rewind. I also found the Quasi S-VHS playback to be very indispensable. If you have a collection of S-VHS recordings this unit plays them back with very good results.

Product Description:
Don't miss a minute of favorite shows or tapes. Sony's WEGA-styled SLV-N700 is packed with convenience features designed to simplify recording and viewing, from one-month, eight-event advance programming to commercial skip, instant replay, and everything from auto digital tracking to auto tuner preset and auto head cleaning. Your camcorder or gaming console plugs right into the SLV-N700's front panel for hassle-free connections.
This model's four-head design ensures smooth slow-motion play (forward and reverse) and clear still-frame images, and with hi-fi sound the unit records and plays back stereo audio tracks. If you route the stereo output to an AV receiver, you can even enjoy four-channel (left, center, right, and monaural surround) Dolby Pro Logic mixes from TV and Dolby-encoded cassettes. The SLV-N700's dual-azimuth construction uses two pairs of recording heads rather than one, each optimized for a specific mode (one for SP recording, the other for EP), while 19-micron heads deliver the clearest possible picture when recording or viewing in EP (extended-play) mode.
For setup, a single button calls up an onscreen menu to guide you through VCR setup, including parameters for features like menu language select, satellite receiver or cable-box control setup, and auto tuner presets. The VCR automatically marks the tape with an index signal at the point where each recording begins so you can easily scan back to the start of a recording using these signals as a reference.
VCR Plus+ simplifies programming, as it lets you set the VCR to record programs based on common PlusCode numbers found in the TV listings of over 600 newspapers and TV Guide--no more worrying about start and end times for your most frequently recorded shows. ChildLoc circuitry keeps small hands from going where only tapes belong. With the handy one-hour timer back-up, the VCR saves timer data for up to one hour in the event of a power loss. The unit comes with a multi-brand TV/VCR remote control.
